The focus of this blog will be on the biodiversity of the Monterey Bay and its surrounding lands. There are hundreds of species of fish, over 30 species of marine mammals and almost 100 species of birds (NOAA). There are coastal redwoods, wetlands, agriculture land, multiple mushroom species, mountain wildlife and more.

The Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Center works to improve knowledge about the deep ocean. The Marine Sanctuary focuses on a broader range of topics like the ocean and surrounding wetlands, coastal agriculture, monitoring, and ecosystem-based management. The Bay is one of the largest in the country and ecompasses over 6,000 square miles (Monterey Bay Aquarium). The bay is home to some of the biggest kelp forests and over 500 species of fish.
